Take Me to Old Havana

A few intrepid travelers have made their way to Cuba but, for the rest of us, the best we can do is stake out a seat at Havana New York, a cozy Manhattan restaurant and bar that’s a dark, art-filled oasis of mood music, mojitos and authentic, masterfully crafted Cuban cuisine. A nice stroll from our Flatiron District hotel, it’s just far enough to work up an appetite for heaping servings of Plantain Chips and Guacamole and fall-of-the-bone succulent Billogodio de Cerdo (Braised Pork Shanks seasoned with Cuban Hortaliza Moro rice). There’s also an extra-long Happy Hour (3 pm to 7 pm daily) with half price wine, beer and house drinks. If you can’t get to Havana, this is surely the next best thing.

Address: 27 West 38th Street
