New York is famous for its art museums and rightly so. But if you’re in the mood for something more unique, check out the Museum of the Moving Image, the only museum in the country devoted exclusively to the history, art and technology of movies and TV. Currently host to an incredible exhibition on AMC’s “Mad Men,” the Museum of the Moving Image features actual props from classic films such as Blade Runner and Star Wars, as well as interactive exhibits that let you step into a filmmaker’s shoes. They also run screenings of award-winning independent films, so there’s always something new happening. So on your next trip, take the museum road less traveled. Afterwards, head back to your Manhattan hotel to watch the always-interesting moving images around the Flatiron District and Union Square.
