The Big Apple’s Culinary Big Top

New York magazine called it “a sprawling gastro-circus,” we call it one of the best reasons to head to Manhattan. It’s Eataly, the gigantic culinary temple to all things Italian, and it’s located just five blocks from our front door (in the old Toy Building, for you locals). The brainchild of partners Mario Batali and Lidia and Joe Bastianich, it’s a food hall of sorts, with seven restaurants, five markets (think fresh mozzarella, handmade pasta, artisan oils and much, much more) and dozens of seasonal cooking classes, including “The Art of Fall Risotto” on September 23 and October 22. Wherever you roam in the cavernous culinary space, be sure to make it Birreria, the rooftop restaurant and brewery for beer-braised pork shoulder and a cask-brewed ale.
